http://www.TeenMusic.com 's Interview
12-year-old Stevie Brock is a blonde-haired dynamo from Dayton, Ohio who grew up on pop boy bands like N’ Sync (Justin is his fave artist), Backstreet Boys and Boyz 2 Men. The singer/songwriter belted out his first song at age two and started songwriting when he was only eight. I recently saw Stevie perform in L.A. and both his choreography and voice are in top shape. His single “All for Love” is big on Radio Disney and girls are taping his pictures on their walls as you read this. We phoned Stevie at home outside Dayton.
TeenMusic: Are you still going to public school or home school? Do you have a preference?
Stevie: I’m still going to public school but when I’m working I have a tutor. I like both because in public school I get to hang out with my friends and goof off but with my tutor, it’s one-on-one so it’s easier.
TeenMusic: Where do you think teen pop music is headed and why?
Stevie: I think teen pop will always be strong in its area because it’s great music for teen girls. It’s what teens like. I think it’ll stay around for a long time.
TeenMusic: What was that first song you wrote when you were 8 about?
Stevie: It was “Little Waves”. It was about me being in an airplane watching a girl on the beach and how I couldn’t get my eye off of her and I’m describing it. It’s pretty cool.
TeenMusic: What is your songwriting process? You write in a journal but what comes first music or lyrics?
Stevie: Lyrics first. I put my lyrics into my head and then the beat and melody comes later. I just have my journal ready.
TeenMusic: What is the weirdest object you’ve ever written a lyric on?
Stevie: Oh wow. That’s a cool question. I wrote on my own hand once. I wrote on my pants once.
TeenMusic: What is your weirdest fan encounter so far?
Stevie: Actually a girl at my school licked my locker. I don’t know what she thought was in there. I didn’t catch her but it was going around that this girl did that.
TeenMusic: How did you choose “All for Love” as your single?
Stevie: Johnny Wright [his producer] picked the song. He’s was the executive producer on the album. He picked the songs and he chose “All for Love” for my single.
TeenMusic: Do you have a favorite song on your album?
Stevie: I like the first song “If You Be My Baby”. It wasn’t recorded in time to be the single.
TeenMusic: If you go on tour, what do you do to blow off steam and relax?
Stevie: I play a lot of video games. Playstation Two. I like any EA Sports games. If the fans are lookin’ to get me anything, that’s your answer right there.
TeenMusic: Who is in your CD player now?
Stevie: Right now is Justin Timberlake’s new album. I’m gonna try to see his tour with Christina, either the Cincinatti or the Columbus show.
TeenMusic: Were your parents musical? Are you an only child?
Stevie: Yes, I’m an only child. My parents weren’t very musical. I have talent all over my family but I get it mostly from my Grandpa. He makes Bluegrass music. He used to work with Bill Monroe and all those guys. He’s a great guitar player. He’s multi-talented.
TeenMusic: Do you play a musical instrument?
Stevie: I’m now learning how to play the guitar. Just for songwriting and stuff. Maybe, eventually, I’ll get to add a guitar into my act. Like one of the slow ballads, add guitar melody to it.
TeenMusic: Who did you listen to when you were younger?
Stevie: A lot of N’ Sync and Backstreet Boys and Boyz 2 Men. I really liked Boyz 2 Men. Their voices, harmony and everything. I get chills when I hear them harmonize.
TeenMusic: Are you eventually interested in doing more R&B style tunes like Justin?
Stevie: Yeah, right now I’m where N’ Sync is. I have the N’ Sync style. Hopefully, someday I can go to where Justin is because that’s what’s natural for me. Right now I’m doing up-tempo pop which is also natural for me.
TeenMusic: What is your idea of an perfect date activity.. or just a friend date?
Stevie: I would usually let the girl decide but in a perfect world it would probably be a movie and basketball, watching a game. The Mavericks are my favorite.
TeenMusic: What is the hardest for you, singing, songwriting or the choreography?
Stevie: Singing while doing choreography is really tough.
TeenMusic: So doing a quiet ballad might be a relief?
Stevie: Yeah, just get a stool out there, get on the stool and sing.
TeenMusic: You’ve met Justin. Did he encourage you or give you any tips? What did he say?
Stevie: Yeah he did. He said ‘When you think of lyrics, make sure that you write them down’ because he said that he regrets not writing down some of the lyrics that he had. He’s had like 2,000 songs he could have had as hits that just went right out of his head.
TeenMusic: Do you wish people would stop saying you are a younger Aaron Carter? How do you think you two are different?
Stevie: I’m actually honored to be compared to him because he’s got the best fanbase that you can get. He’s really popular and he’s a great guy. I’m not offended to be compared to him. He’s really talented. But we’re totally different people. I haven’t really talked to him in a long time. I took a picture with him. I don’t know if we have different personalities. The only thing that is kind of similar is our hair. Maybe we could be cousins.
TeenMusic: Do you think that, at some age, you’ll want people to call you Steve instead of Stevie?
Stevie: Steve isn’t for me. I want to be Stevie. We’ve got Stevie Ray Vaughn, Stevie Wonder. It’s Stevie Brock and it’s gonna stay.
TeenMusic: Who are you dying to do a duet with and why?
Stevie: Nick Cannon. He’s is my home boy. I love Drumline. It was awesome. He such a talented guy and he’s cool to work with. I’ve worked with him recently. He’s so easy.
TeenMusic: Who have you seen in concert recently?
Stevie: The last concert I went to was the N’ Sync Celebrity tour.
TeenMusic: What would you like to say to fans or future fans that maybe you haven’t had a chance to yet?
Stevie: Look out for Stevie Brock. I’m coming!
Catch Stevie at these upcoming events: June 28 Stevie will be performing at Radio Disney's Launch Party at the Thanksgiving Point Amphitheatre Salt Lake City, UT 12:00-3:30 p.m. and on July 5th at the Marin County Fair San Francisco, CA. Catch him July 23rd at Camp Jam Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

I listen to different varieties. I have a big variety of what I listen to. Like one day I'll be listening to Justin. The nest day Creed, the nest day Eminem, then the next day, who knows. I'll be listening to Vince Gill.
Do you like performing better or recording in the studio?
I think performing because you know, I just like to see the reaction on people's faces. You know, just see the crowd go wild, hopefully.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Well, I hope to be where Justin is because he's such, you know, he's made so much success and he's sold so many records. Hopefully I could be selling like 4 million copies [laughs] on the first day. Hopefully.
Do you enjoy talking to your fans?
Yeah. My fans are the most wonderful people. You know. They are cool.
Whats your favorite food?
Well, thats an easy one because I eat this every single day and it's you know, Jarid's kinda food, it's called Subway. Have you guys heard of subway? [everyone laughs]

All right. I eat Subway everyday.
If you weren't performing, what do you think you'd be doing?
I would want to be either a professional football player or a professional basketball player. Even beter, both. [everyone laughs]
Can you leave a message for your fans?
Stay cool, you know, you guys are awesome. I love you guys to death and stay in school, don't do drugs [laughs]
Stevie was really sweet. If you ever get a chance to meet him and go to a concert, I suggest you take it. During our interview, his manager moved his chair and he sat down and fell just to make us laugh. He's an amazing performer and us here at Fan 2 Fame support him and know he'll go far.
